The Model B has been in production for more than 20 years. Over that period, the vehicle has undergone a number of design improvements.

Vehicles built before and at the beginning of World War I had wooden wheels with solid tires, a brass radiator, and a simple multi-length body for transporting cargo or people. Their construction resembles horse-drawn carriages (including the driver's workplace). In the course of production, the wheels were changed to steel, the axles were reinforced, and gradually the standard air tires, electric starter and lights were introduced. Design modifications to the engine and gearbox resulted in increased power and speed. An enclosed and heated driver's cab was installed.

FWD Model B in Polish Army

After the establishment of the Polish Republic in 1918, it was necessary to equip the nascent army with modern automotive technology, especially in the context that the newly formed state had been in permanent conflict with its eastern neighbour, socialist Russia, since its inception. One of the types purchased was the FWD Model B car, a 1917 subversion of which large numbers were being scrapped by the British and French armies. By the end of the Polish-Russian War about 100 of these cars had been delivered. After the end of the conflict, in 1921, the army addressed the unification of the vehicle fleet. As the vehicle design was already obsolete at this time (despite continuous modernization), the War Ministry decided not to purchase any more vehicles of this type. The vehicles, originally included in a number of units, were gradually withdrawn and either converted into mobile workshops (since this purpose was also served by some of these vehicles in the Western armies, it is highly probable that some of the vehicles had already been delivered in this modification), or used as artillery tractors (e.g. by the 1st Regiment of Anti-Aircraft Artillery as tractors of 88 mm guns of the vz. 17). In this role, some of the vehicles lasted until the end of the 1930s (in 1936 there were still at least 36 units of this truck in the Polish Army). After the outbreak of World War II in 1939, the FWD Model B rejoined the fighting after 21 years - as a mobile workshop with a minimum of 2 units. Of these, 1 piece in the 12th Armoured Battalion line-up and 1 piece in the 1st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment line-up.
