Addington, Tom

Raymond Thomas Casamajor Addington, third son of 6. viscount Sidmouthe, born 27. January 1919 in Quetta. His father was then serving in 26. the king's personal light cavalry regiment in Waziristan.

Addington attended the royal military academy in Woolwich. In 1939 he joined the 13. the regiment HAC royal line of artillery. When the war broke out, he was entrusted with training newcomers. This, however unfulfilling, so he joined the commandos. With 5. section took part in the operation in Madagascar. During one of the attack he managed to surprise the mayor in bed with a few companions. Coincidentally, it was one of his former teachers from elementary school.

Addington graduated from the para training 1. airborne division, but shortly after D-day he returned to his original regiment, who accompanied the 11. an armoured division from the Normandy beaches after the Balt. The fighting has participated in the role of a forward artillery observer. For personal bravery he was awarded the Military cross.

After the war he served as a staff officer for physical training in the Eastern command. In this function he made use of his rich experience with the sport, which was devoted to the summit. Was šampińem in the discus throw, an excellent boxer, desetibojařem and player of squash. In the years 1948-1949 he served in Palestine, after the army left. He graduated from the agricultural college, and then devoted himself to farming on the family land. The winter he spent in his apartment in Lanzarote, where you love to throw a party.

In 1947 in Switzerland met with a young belgian doctor Veronique Wirtzovou to become his wife. Together they had three sons and four daughters. Major Tom Addington died 28. October 2011.
