Central War Cemetery of the Royal Romanian Army in Zvolen.

The participation of Romanian troops in the liberation of the former Czechoslovakia in the final stages of World War II in Europe was given by the armistice agreement of 12 September 1944.

Romanian units of the 1st Romanian Army, the 4th Romanian Army and the independent Romanian Air Corps took part in the liberation of Slovakia from 18 December 1944 to 30 April 1945.

Romanian troops took part in three offensive military operations of the Red Army (Budapest, Central Slovakia and Bratislava-Brno), in which parts of southern and central Slovakia in particular were gradually liberated. The units fought in the troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front of Marshal USSR Malinovsky and advanced through Slovak territory in the operational subordination of the commanders of the Soviet armies.

In total, around 240,000 Romanian soldiers took part in the fighting over a period of 5 months. Their losses amounted to about 65,000 fallen, wounded and missing.

The Central Military Cemetery of the Royal Romanian Army/the original name of the cemetery was "Central Military Cemetery of the Romanian Army", which was gradually built in Slovakia in the years 1945-1960 and there are concentrated remains of Romanian soldiers, almost from all over Slovakia. 10,382 soldiers are buried in the cemetery. It is one of the largest cemeteries of Romanian soldiers in Europe.

After the revolution in 1989, the cemetery began to decay, mainly due to vandals. Minimal care was taken to maintain it.

In 2004, the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic restored the central monument with a mound, and from the contribution of the Embassy of the Republic of Romania, lists of fallen soldiers on graves were made - made of non-metallic materials.

At present, the cemetery is maintained in a relatively decent condition by the city of Zvolen, partly from its own budget and, on the basis of the War Graves Act, also by a contribution from the state.

Remembrance acts are held in the cemetery to celebrate public holidays and to visit official delegations from Romania.
