The nearly 100-strong task force, comprised entirely of members of the 601st Special Forces Group, departed on Sunday, June 19, in the night hours for Afghanistan. For six months, they will operate under the NATO flag for the first time in history as part of the ISAF coalition force.
The Special Forces Task Force will operate in eastern Afghanistan for 12 months. The first rotation, which is expected to take over the operational task on 1 July this year, is scheduled for late 2011-2012.
The commander of the Special Forces Task Force is Colonel 601st Special Forces Group Karel Rehka.
