Barmská disidentka a nositelka Nobelovy ceny míru Su Ťij byla po více jak 7,5 letech propuštěna z domácího vězení.
Boj Su Ťij s barmskou vojenskou juntou začal v roce 1990, kdy její strana vyhrála vyhlášené volby. Vládnoucí junta ale volby neuznala, na Su Ťij uvalila domácí vězení a svou zemi postavila do mezináodní izolace. Su Ťij pak byla někoikrát z vězení prouštěna, ale náseledně opět uvržena.
