Hero of Socialist Labour
Hero i Punës Socialiste
Albania after 1945 was a solid part of the so-called socialist camp. The Albanian communists established the highest labour award "Hero of Socialist Labour".
This award was rarely given to individuals firmly tied to the regime, but also to work collectives scientific institutes, scientists but also to deserving party officials, etc.
From 1954 to 1990, when the award of the Order was discontinued, we do not know the exact number of copies awarded, but we can distinguish three basic types:
Type I of the period 1945-1956, made of 18 carat gold. Weight of the jewel 24 g
Type II 1956-1970, made of gilded bronze
Type III, 1970-1990, made of 20 carat gold. Weight of the star 18,5 g
The star itself is mounted on a small pin for attaching to clothing, following the Russian pattern.
