A cavalry fight near Rudoltice on July 8, 1866 and a monument to the Prussian hussars
The Prussian-Austrian War, which swept through Czech territory in the summer of 1866, significantly affected many villages in northern and eastern Bohemia. A large number of monuments and type crosses, which were built in response to these events, can be found to this day. A memorial cross on a sandstone plinth in the village of Rudoltice in Bohemia can be included among the forgotten and partially damaged ones. Let's follow its turbulent history and the reason for the construction together in the following lines. A brief outline of the then war situation finds ourselves in the period after the Battle of Hradec Králové and imagines several minor equestrian collisions on the Czech-Moravian border.
