Colonel Alexei Mikhailovich SOBOLEV
Alexei Mikhailovich Sobolev was born May 29, 1908 in the village of Malinovskoye, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia.
He joined the Red Army in October 1929. He graduated from the Moscow Infantry School (1932) and the M. V. Frunze Military Academy (1941). He took part in the fighting at Lake Khasan in the summer of 1938 as commander of the 2nd (reconnaissance) unit of the 92nd Rifle Division. He was promoted to the rank of captain on 25 May 1938.
In the Great Patriotic War, he was senior assistant to the chief of the Intelligence Department for military reconnaissance from July 1941, chief of the 1. (Military Intelligence) Department, from June 1942 deputy chief of the Intelligence Department of the 33rd Army headquarters. On 10 December 1941 he was promoted to the rank of major. In August-September 1942, he was Chief of Staff of the 17th Rifle Division of the 33rd Army. From October 1942 to February 1943, he served as Chief of the Intelligence Department of the 29th Army. On 13 October 1942, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
From February 1943 to April 1944 he was deputy chief of staff - chief of the intelligence department of the 1st Tank Army staff and was promoted to the rank of colonel on 21.02.1944. From April 1944 until the end of the war he was Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Intelligence - Chief of the Intelligence Department of the 1st Guards Tank Army.
Since July 1946 he was chief of staff of the tank division in the Carpathian Military District, since December 1956 chief of the military scientific group at the headquarters of the Carpathian Military District.
Since May 7, 1958, he was in the reserve. He lived in Moscow.
A. M. Sobolev is the author of the memoirs "The Reconnaissance Men Go on Reconnaissance" (Moscow: Voenizdat, 1963) and "Reconnaissance by Combat-Notes of a Military Intelligence Officer" (Moscow, Moskovskii Rabochi Publishing House, 1975).
He died on Friday, December 30, 1977, in Moscow at the age of 69. He is buried in Rogozhsky Cemetery.
